Man on Fire

is one of the best movies I saw

for Denzel Washington.

The emotions in this film are so intense

fear vs. courage, sadness vs. laughter,

anger and hatred vs love.

Everything was so intense.

The filming is so realistic

which adds more to the intensity of the movie.

One more important thing I loved in this movie

was some of the best dialogue lines

I ever heard :

"Revenge is a meal best served cold"

"Forgiveness is between them and God...My job is to arrange the meeting."

"Creasy's art is death, and he is about to paint his masterpiece"

"A Promise To Protect. A Vow To Avenge"

"He'll deliver more justice in a weekend than ten years of your courts and tribunals."

24 TV Series

I just finished watching season 5 of the TV series "24".

I started from season 1 till 5 and looking forward to watch season 6 & 7.

So far, 24 is the best TV series I watched recently because it was consistent in keeping its good level throughout the 5 seasons I watched.

I started earlier watching Lost, Heroes and Prison Break but after couple of seasons I just lost interest because they became so unwatchable for my taste and mind. Especially the idea of time travel in both Lost and Heroes made me scream "pleeeeeease respect my mind- have mercy on my mental abilities".

As for "24" I found it entertaining with good amount of tension.

Of course there

is repetition and some unrealistic scenes, but they are few and can be unnoticeable in the middle of all the action and tension that is building up.

I really needed a show like "24" which is just a simple hardcore classic action show with no 'out of this world' fiction that started invading every show or movie nowadays.

So tell me what is your favorite TV show these days ??

My son Ahmad was sitting beside me youtubing as usual (like father like son), when he suddenly got up went to a drawer and got the 3D glasses we had them after attending a 3D movie long time ago.

He put them on and started watching something on his laptop.

I asked him: what are you doing ?

and he said: Youtube 3D !!

what ?? Youtbe 3D ?? Thats new !

I put the glasses on and waaw.. its 3D on my laptop screen.

استفسار بسيط

مسرح سينما الاندلس كان موقع لاستضافة العديد من عمالقة الفن العربي
مثل ام كلثوم و فريد الاطرش و ناظم الغزالي في اواخر الستينات و السبعينات

بالاضافة لكثير من الحفلات لنجوم محليين و عرب بعضهم مستمر و بعضهم انقرض

انا شخصيا حضرت هناك في الثمانينات عرض لفرقة البولشوي الروسية الشهيرة للباليه

اين تاريخ هذا المسرح الان ؟؟؟؟ 
لماذا هدم هذا المسرح ليبنى مكانه مجمع ليس له طعم و لا لون و لا رائحة

لماذا لم يبنى بجانبه متحف يعرض فيه التاريخ الثقافي لهذه الفتره 
التي كانت الكويت في المقدمة و كانت محطة مهمة في المنطقة

ام اصبحت ثقافتنا مقتصرة علي المجمعات و المباني الشاهقة ؟؟

Stevemacfix -- Apple and Tech News and Rumors

Here is a presentation summing up the latest Apple and tech news and rumors.

This guy has a nice channel in youtube called stevemacfix and he posts good videos regarding how to do things in your mac .

I advice anyone with a mac to subscribe to his channel in youtube. He has some nice hints and tutorials to show you.

The only problem i find in him is the way he talks.

Dire Straits- My favorite music group

When I was in med school in the mid 1980s, a friend of mine gave me a cassette (adri sha5bari cassette but we didn't have CD players in the car at that time) of a new album for a British band called Dire Straits.

The album titled " Brothers in Arms ".

She asked me to listen to it cause she felt it was amazing. i never heard of them.

At that time everybody was singing, dancing, moonwalking and thrilling like Michael Jackson.

I played the cassette in the car and started listening.. my first impression was what in the hell was that horrible voice. If this guy can sing so can I :p

I ejected the tape and waited for the next day (we didn't have mobile phones at that time.. i know this is a prehistoric story for some of u) to tell her: what was that tape u gave me ? I couldn't listen to it.

She said don't u like it ?Its one of the best albums of the year. Great music. She asked me to read the lyrics while listening to the songs.

I neglected it for a while. Then one day I took the tape out of its box. It was an original tape with a leaflet inside its box on which the lyrics were written ( we couldn't google for lyrics at that time cause we didn't have internet )

I started reading the lyrics and waw. They were amazing. There wasn't much romance or love songs. But songs that talk about human nature and ideas about our world. Simple words composed in a way that give great meanings. Here is an example:

So many different suns

And we have just one world

But we live in different ones" - Brothers in Arms

"They say it's mostly vanity

That writes the plays we act

They tell me that's what everybody knows

There's no such thing as sanity

And that's the sanest fact

The other thing I noticed is the emphasis and importance they give in their songs to music. I felt singing was just an extra thing. Their main aim was to play great music for us. And they did. You will find 7 min songs that has only 2 min of singing and the rest is instrumental.

And so I fell in love with this group since then. Their music grow into you, yet I don't listen to it all the time cause it needs a certain mood.

I just need to mention that the person behind all of what I just said is Mark Knopfler, the founder of the band, the vocalist, lead guitarist and the lyricist. What a talented artist.

He is one of the most respected finger style guitarist in modern era and was ranked #27 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time.

Actually I never liked electric guitar until i heard Mark Knopfler plays it.

I hope you all enjoy listening to Dire Straits and their music.

موسيقاي المفضلة

طرحت ام السعف و الليف في مدونتها سؤال من هو مطربك او مطربتك المفضلة

عندما اسأل عن ماهية الموسيقى المفضلة لدي او نوعية الاغاني اللي احب اسمعها لا استطيع ان اعطي جوابا محددا

فبالنسبة لي الموسيقى الجيدة او العمل الغنائي الجيد لا يعرف هوية او نوع او جنسية او لغة

طبعا كل عمل غنائي يتكون من ٣ ركائز ... الكلمة و اللحن و الاداء

و اهميتهم عندي بنفس الترتيب الذي ذكرته

عادة ما يشد انتباهي في البداية اللحن و لكن لا اتعلق بأغنية و افضلها الا اذا كانت كلماتها متميزة و تحمل فكرة توافقني

بالنسبة لنوع الموسيقى هل افضل الكلاسيك ام الروك ام الجاز ام البوب ام الراب او هل افضل العربي علي الغربي او العكس .... الجواب كالاتي

طبعا موسيقى البوب و الروك و الروك ن رول تعتبر عندي اكثر تقبلا بسبب انتشارها في الماضي ( فترة السبعينات و الثمانينات ايام ما كنت حريص على سماع الموسيقى) قبل الغزو الرابي على عالم الغناء

ولكن هذا لا يمنع من ان هناك اغاني و مقطوعات موسيقية مفضلة لدي من نوع الجاز و الراب و الكلاسيك

وكذلك لا يمنع ان يكون لمطرب او مطربة غير مرغوبين لدي عمل جيد استمتع به ... فلا يوجد تعصب لدي

و كما قلت العمل الجيد لا ينتمي لنوع معين و دائما اجد اعمال اتذوقها من جميع الانواع و اللغات

اما الاعمال العربية فاميل للقديم اكثر بسبب انه كان افضل جودة من الحاضر بكثير و من جميع النواحي

طبعا لا يمنع من وجود اعمال حديثة جيدة لكنها للاسف اصبحت استثناء

و اغلب الاعمال الان سلق بيض مثل الوجبات السريعة تنسمع يومين و تنسى

حتى فيه مره قلت حق ولدي تدري شنو العظمة في شخص مثل بيتهوفن او موزارت؟

عندنا الاغنية اللي تتصدر المركز الاول لمدة اسبوعين او ثلاثة لو ترجع عقب سنة و تسأل عنها محد يذكرها

لكن هذيله اشخاص الفوا موسيقي من اكثر من ٢٠٠ سنة و بدون تسجيل لكنها وصلت لنا و مازلنا نسمع لهم

اما للي يحب يسمع اجابة مباشره عن سؤال من عندي الافضل فهم كالتالي

Groups: Beatles, Pink Floyd, bon Jovi, U2, Bee Gees, ABBA

Males: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Sting, Rod Stewart, Elton John، Enrique

Females: Witney Houston, Celine Dion

العربي: عبدالكريم، فريد ، وردة، ماجدة الرومي، صابر الرباعي

وهناك غيرهم و هناك اعمال كثيرة احبها غير مرتبطة بفنان مفضل

اما افضل فرقة عندي على الاطلاق فراح افرد لها بوست بروحها

الان اترككم مع السمفونية التاسعة لبيتهوفن و ما أعجبني في هذا الفيديو المقدمة التي قالها الموسيقار ليونارد بيرنشتاين

اسمعو كيف يصف شعوره بعدما عاش مع موسيقى بيتهوفن مدة ٣ اشهر

و اسمعو كيف يحلل السيمفونية التاسعة و احساسه بها و بمعاني كلماتها و اسقاطاتها

يحسسني انه انسان متمكن من تخصصه مستمتع و عاشق للعمل العبقري الذي بين يديه

وهذا دليل على حبهم و تعلقهم بالثقافة و تقديرهم للفن

يقال ان بيتهوفن شارك في قيادة الاوركسترا اللي عزفت هذه السمفونية لاول مرة

و عند نهاية هذا المقطع وقف الجمهور مصفقين و رافعين قبعاتهم لتحيته

و لكنه كان معطيهم ظهره لانه كان اصم لا يسمعهم ولا يسمع الموسيقى التي الفها

وقد تعودنا ان نشاهد احداث هذه الرحلة على شاشات التلفزيون بالابيض و الاسود

و لكن الموقع سيتيح لنا مشاهدة ومتابعة هذه الرحلة التاريخية من خلال الانترنت و بنفس التفاصيل و بنفس التاريخ والتوقيت و الخط الزمني و بكل دقة ولكن بعد ٤٠ سنة

سنتمكن من خلاله متابعة العد التنازلي لاطلاق ابوللو ١١ و من ثم متابعة الرحلة الى القمر و مشاهدة هبوط المركبة علي سطح القمر

سيعيد لنا الموقع عرض كل هذه التفاصيل باستخدام الرسوم المتحركة ملتزما بالخط الزمني نفسه الذي يستمر مدة ٤ ايام

راقبت مادار من جدل كبير في الانترنت بعد موت مايكل جاكسون

و انا لا اعني هنا الجدل الامريكي عن اسباب وفاته و محاكماته و ديونه و ووصيته

ولكني اقصد الجدل الكويتي

نعم جدل كويتي كبيردار حول وفاة مايكل جاكسون

جدل كويتي بين فريق تعاطفوا مع مايكل و ترحموا عليه و فريق سفه و لعن و حتى كفر الفريق الاول

فريق اعتبر مايكل اسطورة و مثل اعلى في النجاح و فريق اعتبره شخص تافه و حقير و شاذ

فريق قال عنه انه مات مسلم و هو في الجنة و فريق قال انه يهودي فاسق و هو في النار

فريق تجمع واقام له حفل تأبين و اشعل الشموع و ذرفوا الدموع و فريق جاء بالشرطة ليفرق التجمع بتهمة التفاهة و السخافة و الشعوذة و السحر و ارادوا القاء القبض عليهم

و هناك من تفاوت موقفه بين موقف الفريقين

وقد تابعت ما دار من نقاش و جدل حول هذا الموضوع في المدونات

وقد وصل بهم الجدل لان يشكك البعض بعقيدة البعض الاخر

و تحول النقاش الى مبارزة بين العلمانية و التدين ... بين الليبرالية و التزمت... بين الانفتاح العقلي و الانغلاق الفكري

هذا ما قرأته و تابعته و رأيته و كل هذا في الكويت فقط

و انا لست هنا بصدد اصدار اي حكم علي اي فريق

ولكن اردت ان اوضح الى اي مدى قد يصل التباين بوجهات النظر في مجتمعنا الصغير

الذي يفترض به ان يكون مجتمع متجانس نوعا ما

في موضوع بسيط مثل هذا ..السؤال هنا لماذا هذا التباين الفكري الكبير؟؟

طبعا الجواب انه من الطبيعي ان تجد تباين فكري في جميع المجتمعات

ولكن من الطبيعي ايضا ان نجد جلسات حوار بين الفرق المختلفة

لطرح وجهات النظر و تبادل الاراء و محاولة اقناع الاخر باللتي هي احسن

و هنا مربط الفرس... لغة الحوار

للاسف ما زلنا نستخدم لغة الشتائم و الصراخ و التكفير و صراع الديكة ... هذا في اهون الاحوال

مشكلتنا اننا نبدأ بحوار او نقاش بسبب اختلاف في الرأي

وننتهي بعداء كل فريق لفكر الفريق الاخر

في اغلب الاحيان نقاشنا ينتهي بعراك يفرق و لا يقرب

لان هدفنا من الحوار عادة ليس ان نتعلم من الاخر او نعلمه شيئا

بل هدفنا هو ان نخطئ الاخر و نشبع غرورنا فقط

اعتقد علينا ان نجلس اكثر و نتحاور اكثر و نتعلم الالتزام بأدب الحديث

ويكون هدفنا التقارب و اخلاقنا ان تحب لاخيك ما تحب لنفسك

وذلك للدعوة للوقوف مع الشعب الايراني و دعمه بسبب ما يتعرض له من قمع في الاحداث الاخيرة في ايران

و نجد بون جوفي يغني في بداية الاغنية مقطع بالايراني ... صج عولمه

ياجماعة اذا في احد يترجم اكون شاكر له

و بغض النظر عن المواقف السياسية و تبعاتها في اي دولة و في اي مكان او زمان

اتمنى دائما السلامة للمدنيين العزل و النساء و الاطفال

يعتبر بيل كوسبي من اشهر الفنانيين الكوميديين في امريكا

فقد تربع على عرش المسلسلات الكوميدية التلفزيونية في الثمانينات من خلال مسلسله المسمى باسمه

و الذي امتد عرضه ٨ سنوات من سنة ١٩٨٤ الى سنة ١٩٩٢

و احتل المرتبة الاولي لمدة ٥ سنوات متواصلة و حاز علي العديد من الجوائز

ولكن ما سر نجاح بيل كوسبي و مسلسله الشهير ؟

"كان بيل كوسبي يسمى "أب امريكا

فقد تبنى بيل كوسبي القضية الاسرية التربوية في مسلسله باطار كوميدي و جميل و ممتع

و مثل دور الاب المثالي الذي يتمناه اي طفل

وكانت تلك هي استجابته لانتشار العنف و الفضاضة في الاعمال التلفزيونية التي انتشرت عبر المحطات

كان شخص ملتزم في عمله حريص على المحتوى و المادة التي يقدمها و كان يشرف علي كل شي في عمله

و استمر كوسبي بعد انتهاء عرض مسلسله من العمل من اجل القضية التربوية و العلاقات الاسرية

من خلال مشاركاته في العديد من المحاضرات و المؤتمرات

وقد كرم بيل كوسبي بالعديد من الجوائز التقديرية و شهادات الدكتوراة الفخرية من جامعات متعددة

نتمنى ان نرى في يوم من الايام من يقدم لنا فنا راقيا هادفا

و الله يتوب علينا من البلام و ربعه

Ubuntu Operating System- My First Impression

I got fed up with the continuous complaints of my son Ali regarding his laptop. Viruses, hackers, stolen emails, slow performance and frequent need to format .. all are usual stories.

And I guess me and my son are not the only ones in the world who are fed up of vista and hates to live with windows problems.

So, I decided to move him away from windows.

And since apple laptops are expensive, buying him a macbook was not an option.

Suddenly my friend Waleed advised me to install ubuntu, a linux based operating system which is available to download for free!!

So I did.

It is available as an iso-file 700 MB in size ready to download and burn to a blank CD (NOT DVD).

Then you can have the option of either trying it while you keep windows or fully install it.

If you decide to install it, again you will have the option to install it on the whole hard disc after formatting it or install it in a partition along with windows for dual boot.

If you decide to use a partition installation

then you get a graphical interface where you can select the partition and change its volume.

I opt for full installation after formatting the whole HD.

Installation process went smooth with easy to follow instructions.

After restart you get ubuntu.

The layout is simple, easy to read and follow. It looks stable, fast and easy on the hardware.

At the beginning it was sooo basic. I think they kept it minimal so it fits onto a 700 MB blank CD.

We needed to make few set up clicks to choose the right drivers for the video card and sound card. Otherwise, everything was working ok.

BTW, my sons laptop is Dell Inspiron 1520.

Amazingly, the 700 MB ubuntu came preinstalled with firefox 3.0, messenger client, uTorrent, basic media player, photo browser with simple editing, open office and few games.

We found a long list of plug-ins included that you need to choose from to download, which will help you get arabic and more media supports.

After that, you are ready to go.

We downloaded a nice application called emesen, which is a messenger that supports arabic and has most of the msn functionality such as cam support and emoticons.

Still there are so many applications that need to be downloaded and tested.

I will or let Ali update you inshallah with our experience with the

ubuntu.

As for my first impression, i think it is highly recommended to try it especially for net users who are worried about viruses and hackers.

I believe those who want to get rid of windows and find apple too expensive to go for ubuntu and they won't regret it.
